Life is a journey that will take you places you never expect, Pam Mars Wright, Chairman of the Board of Mars, Inc., and a Foxcroft School graduate, told students and faculty Monday, Sept. 26, during a special gathering at the School's Currier Library.

“You know I never thought I would be doing what I am doing,” said Wright, sitting among the students and speaking more from her heart than from the notes she brought along. “When I was [a student] here, I had no plans, no idea what I wanted to be or do. I’m still not sure. But life evolves, so don’t worry about what those plans are going to be. I know it sounds corny but life is the journey."

Over the next hour, Wright described the evolution of her career, punctuating her narrative with anecdotes about high school, family and jobs she had held that captivated the students. More than once, she noted how skills, values and experiences gathered at Foxcroft helped her.

“You will learn things here that you will pull out at the most amazing times,” said Wright, who serves on Foxcroft's Board of Trustees. “You learn to stand in front of people and be a leader and you learn to stick with your values, even when you have to make unpopular decisions.”

Wright heads the board of one of the largest privately-held companies in the world, Mars, Inc., which had 45,000 employees and more than 100 subsidiaries. After her talk to the full School community, she answered questions and then joined a small group of student leaders for lunch.
