Broadway Comes to Foxcroft: Chan Harris performs Monday, April 30

EE
Chan Harris, actor and director of shows both on and off Broadway, will present Strange Journey: An Artist's Travelogue, a musical performance inspired by his journals, at Foxcroft School on April 30th as the inaugural guest artist of the Helen Cudahy Niblack '42 Lecture Series.

All are invited to attend this exciting event. The performance will begin at 8 p.m. in the Engelhard Activities Building. Seating is limited so please make reservations by calling the Development Office at 540.687.4513 or 4510. Harris will also visit with students and theater classes during the day Monday and Tuesday as part of this exciting new arts series.

Harris has performed in Into the Woods, Big River and Les Miserables on Broadway, understudying lead roles in each, and has appeared in numerous regional and international productions. The first foreign actor to work in the Korean-language theater in Korea, he earned “Best Actor” honors at the Korean Theater Awards for his performance as Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar.

An acclaimed director as well as performer, Harris directed the Off-Broadway productions Miss Julie and Opera for Dummies, the national tour of Forever Plaid, and regional productions of All’s Well That Ends Well, Fully Committed, Harps & Harmonicas, The Flood, Crazy for You, The King and I, and Always . . . Patsy Cline, among others. In addition to his Broadway experience, his acting credits include Grand and Glorious and Radiant Child (Off-Broadway); Big River, Evita and Six Degrees of Separation (national tours) as well as The Importance of Being Earnest, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, A Lion in Winter and Two Gentlemen of Verona, (regional). Harris studied opera at the Juilliard School and acting at NYU's Tisch School.

He created the one-man show he'll perform at Foxcroft last fall for the Mountain Playhouse in Jennerstown, PA.

“I have always been an avid journal-keeper and have worked in a lot of different places, nationally and internationally,” he says. “I decided to compile a variety of experiences with words and music. The piece spans four continents and a couple of islands!”

Established in memory of Helen Cudahy Niblack '42 by her daughter Austi Brown '73, the Niblack Lecture Series seeks to bring a variety of literary, performing and fine artists, artisans, and designers to Foxcroft to share their work. The series will expose both students and the community to the nature of the creative process, and the breadth of artistic pursuits.
