Andeulazia '14 earns National Achievement Scholarship Program Recognition

Andeulazia '14 has been named an “Outstanding Participant” in the National Achievement Scholarship competition, Head of School Mary Louise Leipheimer announced Friday.

A senior from Chantilly, VA, Andeulazia is one of just 3,100 students nationwide who qualified for this honor. She did so by scoring in the top 3 percent of the more than 160,000 Black American high school students who took the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test in October 2012. The names of these academically-talented students have been referred to colleges and universities across the United States.
Andeulazia, who plays varsity volleyball and softball and serves as a Dean's Prefect in the library, is a strong student with a passion for languages. Last summer she attended the highly-selective Summer Language Institute for Arabic at the Foreign Service Language Academy based at the University of North Georgia. This fall, she started an Arabic Club.

The National Achievement® Scholarship Program is an academic competition established in 1964 to provide recognition for outstanding Black American high school students. Black students may enter both the National Achievement Program and the National Merit® Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®) and meeting other published requirements for participation. The two annual programs are conducted concurrently but operated and funded separately. A student's standing is determined independently in each program.
