Amanda '11 writes prize-winning story

Amanda '11 Sunday was awarded third prize in the High School division of the It’s All Write Short Story Writing Contest sponsored by the Loudoun County Public Library. Noted author Chris Crutcher presented her with a certificate and a cash prize at a standing-room-only ceremony at the Ashburn Public Library.

Amanda's futuristic story “Matches” was selected from more than 220 entries. The judges were three local authors, including Crutcher, a well-known teen fiction writer (Stotan!, Running Loose, and Athletic Shorts). The winning stories may be viewed on the Loudoun County Library website.

This is not the first writing success for Amanda, whose fantasy novel Fantasy Fighters: Flickers of Light was published in February 2009, when she was just 16 years old. A resident of North Palm Beach, FL, Bogart struggled with dyslexia as a young child and had an inspirational story of how, as she puts it, “her greatest fear became her greatest strength.”
