Alicia H. '14 Named Athlete of the Week

Alicia H. '14, whose stellar play in the goal helped Foxcroft almost upset the No. 1 ranked field hockey team among Virginia's Division II private schools, has been named Athlete of the Week for the period ending Nov. 5.
A stalwart in goal all season, Alicia was at her best in two Delaney Athletic Conference tournament games last week. In a DAC semifinal game on Thursday, she had six saves, including a dramatic diving stop to preserve her ninth shutout,  2-0 victory over Highland School. The next day,  she saved 21 of 22 shots on goal in a tough 1-0 loss to undefeated No. 1 Fredericksburg Academy.
Alicia’s performance helped Foxcroft maintain a No. 7 position in the state rankings, putting the 9-5 squad in the Virginia State Field Hockey Tournament for the second time in three years.

“Alicia's diving save in the Highland game and her 21 saves in the game against Fredericksburg Academy were a rallying cry for the team,” said Athletic Director Michelle Woodruff said.  "She kept us focused in the Highland game and kept us alive in the Fredericksburg Academy game.

"She is smart, has great reflexes and is an excellent communicator with her defense. She works really well with Lilly MacDonald as sweeper.”
