21 Students Honored for Excellence on National French Contest

French students excel on National French Contest exam

Topping the list of amazing academic achievements on the 2015 National French Contest this year, sophomore Lindy D. received a PERFECT SCORE on the Level 3 exam to earn a platinum medal and the number one ranking in both Virginia and the United States (out of 17,947 students). Also in French III, four other students placed in the 95th percentile -- Patia ‘16, Ines S. ‘16, Carli ‘16, and Isabella Z. ‘17 -- earned gold medals for their scores, and Patia and Isabella are tied for the 47th spot in the nation and 2nd in Virginia as they earned the exact same score! Jessie ‘16 earned a bronze medal.
Among the 23,150 students taking the French level 2 exam across the nation, Sofia C. ‘16 finished 13th -- and she is ranked 1st in the state of Virginia! She earned a gold medal, and her classmates, Carolina W. ‘17 and Emilia ‘16 got silver, and Sofia T. ‘17, Sophie H. ‘17, and Laurel ‘16 earned bronze.

Competing in the Level 1 contest, Winnie ‘16, Michelle ‘17, Bego ‘18, and Allegra ‘18 received gold medals for placing in the 95th percentile. Clarke ‘17, Saylor ‘18, and Mariana ‘18 took home silver, and Rebecca ‘18 and Mia B. ‘18 earned bronze.

“This is only the second time this has happened for me as a teacher,” said French teacher Arnaud Boulestreau of Lindy’s achievement. M. Boulestreau is especially impressed with how well his students did, earning 21 medals this year compared to three in 2014, which speaks to the progress they are making and the hard work they are doing in the classroom.

Twenty-six of the 29 Foxcroft students who took “Le Grand Concours," as the test is officially known, earned certificats de réussite for securing above-average scores. Le Grand Concours is an annual competition sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French. Some 90,913 students from across the United States and around the world took the written test this year.
