17 AP Scholars Announced!

Seventeen Foxcroft School students -- including five current seniors and one-third of the class that graduated last May -- earned AP Scholar designation from the College Board for exceptional achievement on the Advanced Placement Program Exams, Interim Academic Dean Courtney Ulmer announced Friday.

This is the 10th consecutive year in which Foxcroft has seen the number of AP Scholars reach double digits. The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program provides willing and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school, and to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on the AP Exams. Worldwide, only 22 percent of the 2.2 million students who took AP Exams performed well enough to earn an AP Scholar Award; Foxcroft students far exceeded this standard.
Four members of last spring’s graduating class qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award status by achieving an average of at least 3.5 (out of 5) on all the AP exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of the tests. They are Carter Ware of Middleburg, VA, who is a freshman at Washington and Lee University; Olivia Saez (Passaic, NJ; New Jersey Institute of Technology); Xiaoke “Chloe” Liu (China; University of California at Irvine), and Xiaoying “Lexy” Lu (China; Cornell University).

Three current seniors -- Kate E., Andeulazia H., and Lilly M. -- and 2013 grad Miranda Raschid (Purcellville, VA; Barnard College) earned the AP Scholar with Honor Award. Each of these students achieved scores of 3 or better on at least four tests with an average of 3.25 on all the AP exams they took.
Nine individuals, including two members of the Senior Class, qualified for AP Scholar honors by earning grades of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams.

Miranda G. and Meredith K. are the two current Foxcroft students in this group. The Class of 2013 AP Scholars are University of Virginia freshmen Emma All (Middleburg), and Catherine Reynolds (Round Hill, VA), Avery Finkel (Warrenton; Brandeis University), Rebecca Mann (Hamilton, VA; Washington and Lee University) and Caroline Quanbeck (Middleburg, University of Miami), Jeanete Pina (Bronx, NY, Bentley University) and Zhou Yang (Gaizhou, China; Fordham University).

More than 3,600 colleges and universities annually receive AP scores. Most four-year colleges in the U.S. provide credit and/or advanced placement for qualifying exam scores. Research consistently shows that students who score a 3 or higher on AP Exams typically experience greater academic success in college and have higher college graduation rates than students who do not participate in the Advanced Placement program.

Foxcroft has a tradition of academic excellence that is reflected in these results. Congratulations, girls!
