10 Students Honored for Excellence on National French Contest

Isabella '17 captures top ranking in Virginia for French II!

Isabella Z. '17 and Sofia C. '16 earned silver medals and freshman Lindy D. picked up a bronze to lead an impressive group of 10 Foxcroft School students honored for their outstanding performances in the 2014 National French Contest, French teacher Arnaud Boulestreau announced Wednesday.
Among the 19,492 students taking the French Level 2 exam, Isabella finished 80th overall and first in the state of Virginia. Lindy was third in the state and ranked 178 nationally.

Competing in the Level 1 contest, Sofia C. was 56th out of 18,324 test-takers nationally and second in Virginia.

Ten of the 14 Foxcroft students who took “Le Grand Concours" as the test is officially known, earned certificats de reussis for securing above-average scores. Three of them earned certificats d’honneur after finishing in the top 20 percent. Freshmen Sophie H. and Sofia T. did it in Level 1 and sophomore Jasmine M. did likewise in Level 2. Her classmate, Jessie H., was recognized for finishing among the top 30 percent.

“Bravo to you all!” said Head of School Mary Louise Leipheimer.

Le Grand Concours is an annual competition sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French. Some 93,718 students from across the United States and around the world took the written test this year.
