Shelly Betz Named Director of Strategic Initiatives and Marketing

Shelly Betz has been named Director of Strategic Initiatives and Marketing for Foxcroft School, Head of School Cathy McGehee announced recently. Under the direction of McGehee, Betz works with administration, faculty, and students to advance and implement the overall marketing and communications objectives for the 101-year-old girls’ boarding school.

A native of Huntington, WV, Betz brings more than 25 years of expertise to Foxcroft. She began her career in television production in Boston, MA, and later pursued professional opportunities and personal adventures that took her to Silicon Valley, Paris and several other locations. Her vast experience in marketing, communications, development, fundraising, and special event planning across industry sectors that include health care, sports and entertainment, and higher education will be a tremendous asset to Foxcroft School in advancing its strategic plan.

“Shelly brings not only a fresh perspective to the independent school world, but also great expertise that will be valuable to Foxcroft as we begin our second century of educating girls,” McGehee said.

Prior to joining Foxcroft School, Betz was marketing and public information officer at Ohio University in Ironton, OH. While there, she worked across disciplines with key departments to increase student enrollment, highlight faculty achievement, promote student successes, and streamline communication materials and channels. She also hosted a weekly public affairs television program to promote University academic interests and activities, discuss current events, and educate the public about community resources.

Betz also spent nearly seven years as director of marketing, development and community relations at Hospice of Huntington (WV), a cause that remains dear to her heart.

Betz earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in political science from West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV, and most recently completed a mini-MBA program in digital marketing at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ.

The mother of two Foxcroft students, Betz has been very involved in the local communities throughout her career, serving on numerous civic boards and committees, including advocacy for the homeless and support for local Boys & Girls Clubs. She is a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She looks forward to joining local chapters of these organizations and becoming an active member of the Middleburg community.
