Maggie Blake Bailey to Highlight 2015 Poetry Festival

Maggie Blake Bailey, whose work has been published in numerous literary magazines, will be the featured writer at Foxcroft School’s Paul K. Bergan Poetry Festival January 23-24, English Department Chair Anne Burridge announced Tuesday. All the festival events are open to the public at no charge. Schedule specifics will be released early in January.
Bailey’s poems have appeared in The Southern Poetry Anthology, Volume V: Georgia, Tar River, Slipstream, and have twice been nominated for the prestigious Pushcart Prize. A member of the Westminster School faculty in Atlanta, GA, she has studied at Stanford University, Oxford University (England) and Brown University and is currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the Sewanee School of Letters.

During her visit, Bailey will give a reading at the Audrey Bruce Currier Library, conduct a writing workshop, and serve as judge for Foxcroft students’ annual competitive poetry readings. In addition, the festival will offer several opportunities for students and faculty to share original and published poetry, in English and in other languages -- ranging from French and German to Mandarin, Ibo, and Catalan -- throughout the weekend.

Named in honor of former English teacher Paul Bergan, the annual poetry festival has brought a variety of established poets to campus over the years including the late Claudia Emerson (Virginia Poet Laureate), alumna Tina Barr '73, Donna E.M. Denizé, Joel Dias Porter (aka DJ Renegade), Geraldine Connolly, Sami Miranda, and performance poets Jason LeVasseur, Nan Fry, and Clint Smith.
