At a time when newspapers, television news and educational journals all herald the lure—and dangers—of websites such as myspace.com and facebook.com, Foxcroft School is delighted to announce that Robin Raskin, an expert on raising children in a digital world, is the 2006 Alison Harrison Goodyear Fellow and will speak at the School on Tuesday, April 25.

The public is invited to attend Raskin’s lecture, entitled “They’ve Got Mail; You’ve Got Trouble,” at 8:00 pm at Foxhound Auditorium, in Foxcroft’s Schoolhouse. A reception will follow the presentation, which is aimed at adults. Raskin, aka “Internet Mom,” is meeting with Foxcroft students in small groups during her two-day visit.

Raskin, author of six books on parenting in the digital age, has been translating technology into consumer-friendly terms for more than 20 years. Her work has focused in recent years on how technology impacts family life and she has become an outspoken advocate for parental involvement in raising digital kids, testifying before the Federal Trade Commission on Internet safety and addressing parents, educators, policy makers and the high-tech industry on such topics.

“We can’t argue for technology at the expense of values," she says.

A former editor of FamilyPC and PC Magazine, Raskin is a columnist for USA Today Online and the Gannett News Service, as well as director of communications for The Princeton Review.

She produces monthly television spots on high-tech living which are carried by local stations nationwide and has appeared on NBC Early Today, MSNBC, Live with Regis and Kelly and the CBS Early Show. She also served on the National Research Council's Committee, which published "Tools and Strategies for Protecting Kids from Pornography and their Applicability to Other Inappropriate Internet Content" and names Nickelodeon, Intel, Microsoft, SONY, Disney Publishing and Gruner & Jahr among her consulting clients.

The Goodyear Fellows program, entering its 36th year, brings distinguished speakers and provocative performers to Foxcroft to deliver a keynote address and conduct small group seminars with students.. Recent fellows include The Capitol Steps, Dr. Mary Pipher, Jean Kilbourne and Sally Ride. Maya Angelou, Barbara Walters, David McCullough and Doris Kearns Goodwin have also been Goodyear Fellows.

Those interested in attending the Goodyear Fellow Lecture should call 540-687-5555 as space is limited. For more information on Raskin, visit www.robinraskin.com .
