Pulitzer Prize winning historian Doris Kearns Goodwin was named the 2000 Alison Harrison Goodyear Fellow and spoke at Foxcroft School on February 21, 2000. Residents of Middleburg and the surrounding communities were invited to attend the lecture at 8:30pm in Foxhound Auditorium, located in Schoolhouse on the Foxcroft campus. A question and answer period, reception, and book signing followed.

Ms. Goodwin, honored in 1995 with the Pulitzer Prize for History for her best-seller, No Ordinary Time: Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt: The Home Front in World War II, is also the author of The New York Times best-sellers, The Fitzgeralds and the Kennedys and Lyndon Johnson and the American Dream. A riveting speaker, she peppers her talks with anecdotes and witty insights; her understanding of the inner selves of her subjects is unmatched.

The Goodyear Fellows program, entering its 30th year, brings distinguished speakers such as Archibald MacLeish, Maya Angelou, Aimee Mullins, David McCullough, Jane Shore, and Barbara Walters to Foxcroft. In addition to delivering a keynote address, the speakers, while in residence, lead small group seminars during their time on campus.
