Foxcroft wins season opener
The Foxcroft varsity lacrosse played their season opener at home yesterday under blue skies and comfortable spring temperatures. Co Captains Ashton '10 and Dish '10 got the team going early, each scoring 2 goals and assisting the other in the first 4 minutes of the game, giving Foxcroft a 4-0 lead with 16:26 remaining the first half. Foxcroft then pulled back and controlled the tempo, preventing the score from becoming too lopsided. During the remaining 11 minutes of the half, Ashton added 1 more goal while Rebecca '10 added one and Olivia Jane '13 chipped in two goals to give Foxcroft an 8-3 lead at the break.
Foxcroft continued to dominate during the second half, possessing the ball for minutes at a time before setting up scoring opportunities. Dish ’10 added three more goals while Ashton ’10 and Meaghan ’10 each added one. Wakefield was able to penetrate the defense several times adding 5 goals of their own to give them 8 total at the buzzer. Junior goalie Clancey had a great game stopping fast breaks and the only penalty shot against her, giving her 10 saves in the game. Terry Lynne ’10 and Anna also contributed on defense, with interceptions (TL with 3) and successful defensive clears (Anna with 3).

Varsity is off to a great start
Despite unusually warm temperatures, the Varsity played well and was able to handle a very good Madeira team. The offense got the team started early with a goal within the first minute of play. Madeira then put the ball past Clancey ’11 but Foxcroft was able to answer, often and with purpose. By the end of the game, the girls had secured their second win in as many games.
Special recognition goes to the entire defense, which was able to control and stop Madeira’s relentless attack. Clancey had 6 saves in goal while Anna ’10 had 4 ground balls, Caroline ’13 had 3 ground balls and 2 take aways and Lizzie ’12 had two take aways. A great effort by all.

Fxocroft loses to conference rivals
After only four practices and two games, Foxcroft could not handle the more seasoned Highland team, which was playing its eighth game. Hot temperatures could have been a factor but really, Foxcroft was dimply not prepared for the effort of Highland. Desire was also a factor and the Foxcroft quad seemed to lack this at times. The team will be better prepared to play Highland when they meet again, determined to have a more successful outcome.

Foxcroft beats Fredericksburg Academy
Despite a cold rain of April showers, Foxcroft was able to secure its third win of the season, beating a very good Fredericksburg Academy 11-8. Led by the seniors on offense, Foxcroft had a 7-3 lead at the half.
Fredericksburg would continue its effort and close the gap in the second half, pulling within three goals. Foxcroft dominated most of the game and continued its effort on the ride, creating many FA turnovers. Clancey ’11 in goal also secured the defense with 8 saves and successfully clearing the ball to teammates Anna ’10 and Terry Lynne ’10 to create the offensive charge. Although Foxcroft gave up 5 goals in the second half, all played well.

Foxcroft wins down the road
Eight different girls scored in the 18-4 win over neighbors, Notre Dame Academy. On a beautiful spring day, the Foxcroft Varsity team played well, working on its transition game and improving the team'sdefense. Offense also began to click as more girls were involved in scoring drives and plays.
Despite a great effort by the Dragon goalie, many Foxcroft girls were able to collect points, combining goals scored with assists. Ashton '10 had 4 goals and 4 assists, Olivia Jane '13 had 4 goals and 1 assist, Dish '10 had 3 goals and 5 assists, Terry Lynne '10 had 3 goals in her first game on offense, and Meaghan '10, Rebecca '10, Caroline '13 and Olivia '12, all had 1 goal each.
Anna '10 led defense with 6 ground balls followed Terry Lynne with 5 ground balls and Lizzie '12 with 3 ground balls. Clancey had 3 saves in goal and 3 successful clears. Ashton was also able to control 90% of the draws until she was replaced late in the second half by Lizzie ’12 and then Olivia Jane ’13, who also controlled their draws.

Foxcroft wins another conference game
Tandem Friends dominated the first nine minutes of the game, scoring first and staying one goal ahead. Then, at 16:24 Ashton '10 scored, giving Foxcroft the lead for the first time in the game. Perhaps nine minutes is the amount of time that it takes to get life back in one's legs after a two-hour bus ride.
After that point, Foxcroft continued to score and scored often. With seven different girls involved in the offense, Foxcroft had a 12-3 lead at the half. Once again, the girls played better team ball with sharper passes and 8 goals assisted; Dish’ 10 led in assists with 5. Dish also led in ground balls with 9 followed by Anna ’10 with 7, Ashton with 6, and Terry Lynne with 5. Congrats to Sara ’11 for reaching the back of the net three times, her first goals of the season!
Defense also did an excellent job adjusting to the larger field and stopping the opposition's transition game, which produced Tandem's first three goals. The Foxcroft midfield also made adjustments to gain draw control after losing the first 4 draws.
A great job by all on a beautiful day!

Foxcroft beats St. James
Foxcroft’s varsity team was able to hold off a strong St. James attack and defeat the Saints, 17-10. With a commanding lead of 12-5 at half time, St. James began to ship away the lead, scoring 3 unanswered goals in the second half. With 9:45 left to play in the game and St. James had pulled within 5 goals, Foxcroft called a time out and discussed a defensive strategy. This strategy worked as Foxcroft scored 3 more goals to St. James 1 goal, ending the game with a 7 goal margin.
A great effort by all but in particular, the defense played well and adjusted nicely to the Saints attack. Clancey had 8 saves in the second half to help Foxcroft improve their record to 8-1.

Foxcroft beats Highland in Rematch
What a difference 3 weeks makes. 9 games and many practices later, Foxcroft’s Varsity Lacrosse team was able to defeat Highland School in the rematch at home, 14-10. This was truly a team effort, starting with Clancey ’11 in goal with a Foxcroft record of 15 saves, to the defense of Lizzie ’12 with 6 ground balls, 2 of which during the last minutes of the game which resulted in Foxcroft’s offense being able to repossess the ball, and Caroline ’13 with 5 ground balls, as well as Anna ‘10 with 7 ground balls and several of her high speed transitions. Subin ’10, Michelle ’11, and Mary Marshall ’10 were also central players on defense, combining for 8 ground balls and 3 take aways. Senior Co Captains Ashton and Dish were also vital in the victory with Dish scoping up 9 ground balls and two take aways and being able to transition the ball to Ashton who found the back of the goal many times with the help of Terry Lynne ’10 and Sara ’11 who each added to the goal count. Starting offensive players, Rebecca ’10, Meaghan ’10 and Olivia Jane ’13 were also imperative to the offense, helping with maintaining procession of the ball for much of the game. In addition, sophomores Olivia, Annie, and Mariel each contributed to the victory on offense. A great team victory.
