Varsity drops first-round DAC Tourney game to Highland 2/23/2010
After the final buzzer sounded Highland's athletic director walked over to Coach Rachel Hollis and said, "Boy, your team has certainly improved from early in the season."
Indeed. Unfortunately, it wasn't quite enough to get the team past his school's squad.
Foxcroft, whose only victory in the Delaney Athletic Conference came against Highland in an "away Home" game at Wakefield on a neutral court on Feb. 4, met its archrival again in the first round game of the DAC Tournament Tuesday, in Warrenton. Again, Foxcroft played a hard-fought game. Only this time Highland prevailed, 47-43.
Foxcroft led after the first quarter and at the half, but Highland gained control of the game in the third quarter, forcing the visitors into only four for 21 shooting from the field, to seize a five-point lead. Foxcroft was never able to regain the lead, despite a nine-point effort by co-captain Terry Lynne '10 in the fourth quarter.
Terry Lynne led Foxcroft with 13 points -- the third game in a row in which she scored in double figures -- despite sitting out much of the second quarter and most of the third quarter with three fouls. Dish '10 chipped in with 12 points, her season high, including a pair of 3-pointers. Annabelle '10 and Ashton '10 each had eight points with Annabelle adding 12 rebounds, her third game in a row with double figures in rebounds.
Highland advanced to the second round of the tournament, while Foxcroft's season ended.
