Academic support is available in the Learning Center, and in the Math Lab and Writing Lab where students improve their study skills, develop strategies for learning, and find special support when they encounter academic difficulty. Students who may be at risk academically may request or be assigned to work with in the Learning Center or one of the labs. Support is offered in time management and organizational skills, note taking, outlining, reading comprehension and speed, test taking, including essay writing and vocabulary development, and in Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II. Depending on the student’s needs, certain skills may be stressed more than others. The Director of the Learning Center also serves as a resource to faculty in putting into place diagnostic recommendations. Over time, students take increasing responsibility for their own learning; the ultimate goal is for them to be independent, life-long learners.
Workshops in Study Skills, Identifying Learning Styles, and Exam Preparation are offered for freshmen to develop organizational skills and study and learning strategies. These workshops serve as a complementary component to the academic program of study for Freshmen.
